Fixing "Messaging session unavailable" and other messaging errors

What to do when SaRA says you have no active messaging session, a patient's messages show a grey screen, or only part of a conversation appears.

Written by Valeed Malik

Seeing "Your account does not have an active messaging session," or can't open a patient's messages? This usually clears in under a minute.

The quick fix

  1. Clear the SaRA data your browser has saved. In Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Delete browsing data, then tick Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files.

  2. Close your browser completely and open it again.

  3. If you use the SaRA extension alongside your EMR, click the SaRA icon in your browser toolbar. Otherwise log back in at app.sarahealth.com. Clicking the icon signs you back into messaging and works more reliably than just refreshing the page.

Other messaging problems and what they mean

  • A grey or blank screen when you open a patient's messages: same fix as above. Your sign-in for messaging has gone out of date.

  • You can see the patient's replies but not the questions they answered: refresh the page. If it keeps happening, send support a screenshot along with the patient's initials and roughly what time you saw it.

  • You can read messages but not send them: check that you're on that patient's care team. If you're not, your clinic admin can add you.

If it happens every day

Tell us. If this keeps coming back for you, we want to look into it rather than have you keep clearing it yourself — message support and mention which browser you use and roughly how often it happens.
