Patient types and message flows: what exists and how to get more

How condition-specific message flows work and how to get a new patient type enabled for your clinic.

Written by Valeed Malik

SaRA supports condition-specific message flows — and we add new ones to your account on request.

Each patient type (for example: neurological, pelvic floor, TMJ, wrist) has its own question set tuned to that population. Your account starts with the types your clinic uses most, and more can be enabled at any time. Once enabled, the type appears in the Patient type dropdown when you enroll:

What flow categories exist?

SaRA's message flows are organized into these categories, each containing multiple specific patient types:

  • General Outpatient PT/OT

  • Joint Specific

  • Dizzy / Balance / Headache

  • Pelvic Floor

  • Post Operative

  • Neurological

  • Speech and Language Pathology

  • Disease States

  • Caregiver

  • Pain Management

  • Cognitive Care

How to get a new patient type enabled

  1. Message us in the in-app chat with the patient type or condition you need. The quickest way is the Request a new patient type link under the Patient type picker in Update RTM Status (open it from any patient's row actions); it opens the chat with the request already started.

  2. We enable it for your account — usually within a business day.

  3. Once enabled, the type appears as an option during enrollment and in Update RTM Status for patients who are already enrolled (how to change a patient's type), and you can review its question set in the app.

Don't see a flow for your population?

Ask anyway — if a flow doesn't exist yet, your request helps us prioritize building it, and we'll suggest the closest existing type in the meantime.

Requesting a custom patient type or message flow

Sometimes no existing type fits: a pediatric caseload where a parent answers for the child, a program with its own outcome questions, or a specialty population you see often. SaRA builds a type just for your clinic. There is no editor for patient types in the app, and you do not need one. Our support team configures the type for you. Send us the following in the in-app chat and we take it from there.

  1. Who it is for. The population, and whether the patient or someone else (a parent, a caregiver) will be answering.

  2. The questions. What you want asked, in the order you want them.

  3. The rhythm. Which days of the week, and whether any question should repeat or alternate.

  4. Languages. Any language besides English your patients need.

  5. Billing. Whether these patients are on RTM, or messaging only.

We configure the type on our side, confirm the wording with you, and tell you in the chat when it is live. After that it works like any other type: pick it in the Patient type dropdown at enrollment.
