Typo in a phone number? Patient goes by a different name? You can correct a patient's details at any time without re-enrolling them.
Where to edit
Open your patient list and find the patient.
Open the patient's row actions and choose Edit Patient Info.
The Update Basic Info dialog opens — change what you need and click Update.
What you can change
Legal first and last name, an optional suffix, and a preferred first name — the name used to address the patient in their daily messages.
Phone number — messages go to the updated number going forward. A phone number is required while the patient is enrolled in RTM.
Date of birth — worth filling in when missing: it improves billing accuracy and helps match the patient to your EMR.
Clinic — the patient's clinic assignment.
EMR patient ID — the patient's ID in your EMR, used for matching. Where to find it: Linking a patient to their EMR chart.
Message days — the patient's check-in cadence (also covered in changing a patient's message cadence).
Demographics — an optional section for details captured at enrollment; every field there is optional.
Looking for something this dialog doesn't cover? The patient's language has its own setting, care-team changes live under Update Care Team, and the patient's type and enrollment status live under Update RTM Status. Changing the type is covered in the next section.
Changing a patient's type after enrollment
The patient type is the program that decides which check-in questions a patient receives. If the wrong body part was picked at enrollment, or the patient's care has moved on (a post-op patient who is now a general ortho patient), you can change it yourself while the patient is active. It is not in the Edit Patient Info dialog; it lives under Update RTM Status.
Open your patient list and find the patient.
Open the patient's row actions and choose Update RTM Status.
Pick the new program in Patient type. As soon as you pick a different one, a line under the picker tells you what will change for this patient.
Click Update. You will see "RTM Status successfully updated."
What changes, and what stays the same
Check-in questions switch to the new program from the patient's next scheduled message. Messages already sent are not affected.
Enrollment and billing carry on. The patient stays enrolled, the current monitoring cycle continues, and nothing is reset. You do not need to deactivate the patient or start a new plan of care.
Welcome messages are not sent again. The patient continues at the regular rhythm of the new program.
Language and message days stay as they were.
A note is added to the patient's conversation saying who changed the type and when, so your team can see it later.
A correction is not a new plan of care. Only deactivate and re-activate with "Yes, new plan of care" when a genuinely new episode of care has started, such as a new injury or a new evaluation. Answering Yes for a simple correction bills the setup code twice in one episode. Details: Re-activating a patient.
If SaRA keeps the old type
SaRA refuses a change for two reasons, and tells you which one applies:
The type is not switched on for this patient's provider. Each provider has their own list of patient types. Pick one from the list, or ask us to add the one you need (next section).
The type does not send messages in the patient's language. The patient receives texts in a language that program does not offer yet. Change the patient's language first (how), or pick a type that offers that language.
Need a type that is not in the list?
Click Request a new patient type under the Patient type picker. It opens a support chat with the request already started. Add the condition or program you need and send it. We switch the type on for your account, usually within a business day, and it then appears in the Patient type list both at enrollment and in Update RTM Status. What exists today: Patient types and message flows.
