Can patients send photos or videos? How media messaging works

Patients can text photos into the conversation, providers can send photos back, and the Request a video button collects full-quality patient videos.

Yes — patients and providers can exchange photos, and you can request videos from patients.

Patients sending photos

Patients can text photos the same way they text anything else — a picture of a swollen knee, an incision, a home setup. The photo appears right in the SaRA conversation, where you can open it full-size.

Patients sending videos by text

Short video clips texted by the patient can come through too, but phone carriers compress video heavily, so what arrives is often low quality. For videos you actually need to evaluate — like movement or exercise form — use the video request below instead.

Requesting a quality video from a patient

  1. In the patient's conversation, use the Request a video option in the message composer.

  2. The patient receives a text with a secure link that opens on their phone (they may be asked to confirm their date of birth).

  3. They record or upload the video at full quality, and it appears in your conversation.

Sending media to patients

Use the attachment button in the message composer to send a photo — the patient receives it as a picture message. Sending videos by text isn't supported (carrier size limits make delivery unreliable), so stick to photos when sending media out.

Not seeing these options?

Media messaging is available to all SaRA customers. If an attachment or video request option doesn't appear for you, hard-refresh the page; if it's still missing, contact support with your login email.
