The Opted Back In card on your patient list

What the Opted Back In card means, why SaRA never re-enrolls a patient on its own, and the three ways a patient comes off the card.

Written by Valeed Malik

A patient who texted STOP and later texted START shows up on the Opted Back In card. It is a to-do list, not a setting, so there is nothing to clear by hand.

What the card means

When a patient replies STOP, their automated check-ins end and their RTM enrollment closes. When that same patient later texts START, SaRA reopens the line right away. What SaRA does not do is put them back on RTM by itself.

Instead, the patient goes on the Opted Back In card at the top of your patient list. The number on the card is how many patients are waiting for a decision. Click the card and the list narrows to just those patients.

Why SaRA leaves this to you. Re-enrolling a patient starts a new monitoring cycle, and that should be a conscious choice by someone who knows the patient is still in care. So the card asks. It never enrolls anyone on its own.

How a patient comes off the card

Each patient drops off the card in one of three ways.

  1. You re-enroll them. Open the patient's row actions and choose Activate RTM. The dialog reminds you the patient texted START and asks you to confirm they are still in your care. As soon as they are enrolled again, they leave the card.

  2. The patient texts STOP again. They come off the card immediately, since they have withdrawn again.

  3. Six months pass. If nobody acts, the patient drops off on their own six months after the START text.

There is no dismiss button. If you do not want a patient back on check-ins, leave them where they are and the card lets go of them on its own.

Answering the new plan of care question

Activate RTM asks whether this is a new plan of care. A patient who texted STOP and then START is usually continuing the same plan, so the answer is usually No. Answer Yes only if a new episode of care actually started, for example a new injury or a new evaluation. The detail, and how to fix a wrong answer, is in Re-activating a patient: continuing vs. starting a new plan of care.

A patient texted START but is not on the card

The card only lists patients who were in your care recently. If a patient's last activity with your clinic was more than six months before they texted START, SaRA reopens their line but does not add them to the card. You can still re-enroll them from the Inactive tab with Activate RTM if they are returning to care.

If a patient who texted START recently is missing and you expected them on the card, message us through the in-app chat with the patient's name and we will check from our side.
